Pre-apprenticeship Co-operative Education.
PACE is a cooperative education program where participating students have an opportunity to explore a skilled trade within the construction sector, through a co-op experience alongside TDSB tradesperson employees. It is offered in collaboration with the TDSB Design, Construction, Maintenance department and its trades union, the Maintenance and Construction Skilled Trades Council (MCSTC). PACE students earn 4 credits in cooperative education while developing skills related to construction and acquire certifications recognized by industry, including Working at Heights and Emergency First Aid.
The process.
Offered in both Semester 1 and Semester 2;
Co-op teachers are sent out the student application package, via email, in April for the 1st semester of the following school year, and in November for the 2nd semester of the same school year;
Full day placements;
All accepted students, including those from non-semester schools, will be placed for one semester only;
Students complete the PACE online application form, which includes the selection of their skilled trade and choice of placement location (TDSB Facility Services sites across the city);
Submit their resume, cover letter, and credit counselling summary; Selected applicants will be invited to interview for the co-op posts they have applied for; Advancing candidates acquire certifications in Working at Heights, Emergency First Aid, and participate in TDSB Compliance training, prior to the expected start date.
