Increased Productivity
The Canadian Apprenticeship Forum (CAF-FCA) research shows that “as apprentices progress in their programs, they make increasing contributions to their workplaces, with the benefits outpacing the investment in most trades by the end of their second year. Most employers consider a homegrown journeyperson up to 30 percent more productive than an external hire.”
Share Your Knowledge and Create Employee Loyalty
By hiring and training new apprentices today, employers can transfer knowledge from one generation to the next and help close the labour gap within their workplace.
Apprentices are critical to our future workforce. Once their apprenticeship is complete, a homegrown journeyperson guarantees a highly skilled worker who is trained exactly how you’d like. They are loyal and grateful for the opportunity you have given them.
Technological Advancement
With significant advancements in trade technology over the past number of years, new apprentices bring a new sense of comfort and familiarity with digital technologies to your workplace. Young apprentices can help your organization keep pace with and adapt to new technologies that emerge in an ever-changing work environment.
Employer Financial Benefits
Employers who sponsor and train apprentices may be eligible for grants to help ease the cost of training. The Achievement Incentive Program may help more employers take on apprentices to build Ontario’s apprenticeship and skilled trades pipeline.
In addition to the provincial funding, employers may be eligible for money from the federal government including:
Apprenticeship Job Creation Tax Credit equal to 10% of the apprentice salary, payable to eligible employers with a maximum of $2,000 per year per apprentice for the first two years of the apprenticeship in Red Seal trades.
Federal wage subsidies and other assistance programs to help you hire the right employees for your business.
