Our Actions

What We Are Doing Now

  • We provide opportunities for students and teachers to learn about unconscious biases, cultural diversity and intersectionality

  • We create equitable opportunities for students to start an apprenticeship pathway

  • We remove barriers to access through financial support, providing students with transportation, protective equipment, tools and textbooks

  • We host events with panelists from all backgrounds so students can see themselves represented in the skilled trade professions

Where We Want to Go

  • Diverse Young Talent We aim not only to diversify the workforce within the skilled trades but to provide opportunities to young people for social mobility and development.

  • Annual Diversity Report We aim to produce our first DEI Internal Annual Report by 2022 to gain a full understanding of our DEI progress within our program and to highlight key areas of improvement and growth.

  • Career Lattice Framework Integrate a consistent and empowering framework so everyone within OYAP understands how to build their career and has the support in place to reach their potential.

  • Partnerships Look to build BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ and alliances within the GTA.
