CONSTRUCTION QUICK START
Step out of the ordinary confines of the classroom and dive headfirst into a thrilling educational adventure! Picture this: you, on a dynamic construction site, not only mastering the ins and outs of building restoration but also racking up those final high school credits. And here's the cherry on top – it's a paid opportunity! Get ready to exchange textbooks for hard hats and transform your learning experience into a hands-on, paycheck-earning escapade!
TO QUALIFY, YOU MUST:
Be at least 16 years old, eligible to work in Ontario, and have a social insurance number
Ideally, have completed at least 24 credits by February and be ready to graduate in June (including all compulsory courses, literacy requirement, and community hours required for your Ontario Secondary School Diploma)
Be willing to travel to a facility in Toronto for 2 weeks of safety training and preparation apprenticeship and also a co-op placement
Be willing to make a strong commitment to the program
G2 license is encouraged but not required
PROGRAM COMPONENTS INCLUDE:
Students attend 4 credit cooperative education starting in February
Pre-placement and integration classes at their home school
Paid co-operative education placement ($20/hr) with a building restoration company in Toronto
2 weeks of preparation and safety training
HOW DO I APPLY FOR THIS PROGRAM?
The application process for this program is as follows:
Contact your guidance counsellor or co-op education teacher and complete the application using the Experiential Learning Information System (ELIS) site by early January. Ensure that you are enrolled in 4-credit co-op for semester 2. You will be contacted via your TDSB email address to upload your resume and cover letter.
You will be invited to an interview in mid-January.
