Any student that has secured a placement in an apprenticeable trade through their school co-op program is an OYAP student

There are over 150 trades approved under The Apprenticeship Certification Act and The Trades Qualification Act.


  • OYAP students are full time students,  have a minimum of 16 credits and are 16 years of age when placement begins


  • Student is placed by co-op teacher in related workplace
  • Trainer must hold a CURRENT Certificate of Qualification (restricted trades) or equivalent
  • If employer agrees, OYAP application is emailed to OYAP office
  • For registration,student  attends a TDSB OYAP group session with a Training Consultant (TC) from the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development(MAESD) to sign Training Agreement
  • Registration is free (save $40)
  • Parent/guardian signature is required for students under 18
  • Student meets supervisor/trainer during placement to discuss competencies in Training Standards and sign off any fully completed skills
  • Upon graduation, student must obtain paid employment in the trade in order to continue the apprenticeship and provide MAESD training consultant with final transcript


  • At all TDSB schools that offer co-op 
  • All students must apply and be accepted to a co-op program in order to participate in OYAP
