PACE Program

 

PACE - Pre-Apprenticeship Cooperative Education

 

The PACE program is offered in collaboration with TDSB's Design, Construction, Maintenance department, and its trades union, the Maintenance and Construction Skilled Trades Council (MCSTC).  Students will have an opportunity to explore a skilled trade within the construction sector, through a co-op experience alongside TDSB tradesperson employees.


Skilled trades placements:

  •      Electrician
  •      Carpenter
  •      Plumber
  •      Bricklayer
  •      Millwright
  •      Sheet Metal Worker
  •       Heating and Air Conditioning 
  •       Steam Fitter     

       
PACE
 program allows students the opportunity to:  

Explore and experience a variety of skilled trades in the construction sector while gaining valuable work experience; earn 4 credits in cooperative education while developing skills related to construction; gain certifications and awareness training recognized by industry.

All students, including those from non-semester schools, will be placed for one semester only.

      
When:
  Semester 1 and Semester 2  (Full Day Placements Only)
      
Students must be at least 16 years of age and committed to attending a cooperative education placement within the TDSB.  

Students who are 18 years of age and older, must undergo a Police Record Check (PRC) through the TDSB PRC office located at 17 Fairmeadow Avenue, Room 107. The process takes approximately 4 weeks and selected students must attain a clear report prior to starting their placements. (see TDSB  PRC policies and procedures.)  

 
 
       
The process:


Student completes the PACE Semester 2 2018/2019 Application which includes the selection of their skilled trade and choice of placement location; 

      Submit the online application form by the due date, including the student's resume, cover letter, and credit counselling summary;

Advancing students will be invited to interview for the co-op posts they have applied for and the selected candidates will participate in pre-placement training including Working at Heights, Emergency First Aid, and TDSB Compliance and Orientation, prior to the expected start date.
