Our OYAP partners include our post-secondary connections, industry relationships, fantastic employers, and our government support services.

We have built relationships with a variety of post-secondary partners to ensure that our OYAP students get a great experience. It’s important to note that apprenticeship programs are actually a more straight-forward lead-in to post-secondary education, and it takes students to a point of success actually often faster than what are seen as traditional routes. The overall goal is that our students be happy, employable and successful. Post-secondary options include both industrial training centres with existing links to well-established unions, as well as colleges and universities. Our program students must be prepared to participate fully in the program that’s offered and supported financially by the TDSB and the Ministry of Education to ensure their own success with commitment and full effort.

Our industry relationships tie in with the training centres and the local employers that are willing to take on apprentices. We also look to have industry partners as part of our OYAP Program Steering Committee, and we try to involve various industry area partners. One overall partner like this is the Ontario College of Trades where we collaborate to present the needs of industry backed by data. Their collaborative information proves that the jobs are there, and we need young people to take the challenge, be trained well, and fill those roles.

We are always looking for more opportunities with employers to help place our OYAP Co-op Program students. If you are interested in hosting an OYAP Co-op student for a work term, please contact us and we will refer you to one of our Student Facilitators for your local area and they will go over the process and details with you. We often also look to invite employers to special open house 'hiring' events or celebrations of student accomplishment where a summer job or support with additional training or tools is appreciated. We want to start to connect the students to their communities even better.

We work closely with policy and standards and follow specific guidelines for the OYAP program. We liaise on a regular basis and report on schedules defined to provide strong data to decision-makers about the importance of supporting young people in the apprenticeship pathway.
